JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) is a graphical file type which can store 24-bit color information and take advantage of lossy compression. JPEGs are being used more for WWW graphics, due to the recent CompuServe lawsuit regarding their GIF format. JPEG files use the extension .jpg or .jpeg.
